bobulate:Seth Godin on clichés:
In printing, a cliché was a printing plate cast from movable type. This is also called a stereotype. When letters were set one at a time, it made sense to cast a phrase used repeatedly as a single slug of metal. “Cliché” came to mean such a ready-made phrase.
During my many google searches to try (in vain) to find out whether Murray Gold’s The End of Time soundtrack is available yet, I came across quite a few damning reviews of Gold’s New Who music. Why?! Why I ask you! In my view, he is just brilliant. Maybe it’s because I love the show, and have no desire to let anythingruin that, and always let myself just get swept along with the whole thing, but I don’t see what on earth these people are on about. Some are complaining that his music is too “over the top” and “crash-bang-wallop”ing, but isn’t that the whole point of Doctor Who? It’s sci-fi. It’s an amazing sci-fi hero fighting huge, scary, magical, mythical, dangerous monsters and aliens. What isn’t over the top about that?! If the music was all pathetic upper strings and tootling flutes people would surely complain. Don’t these mind-blowing monsters deserve the big crash-bang-wallops of Murray Gold’s soundtrack? Another point brought up on plenty sites is that the sound levels are often bodged to make the music too loud. Well basically, that’s not in any way Murray’s fault. Full stop.
He’s wonderful and he makes the show wonderful. What would it be without him? Dare I say, a little boring? It’s the music that make half the tension, the emotion, the danger, the love, the story. Pieces like Rose’s Theme and Doomsday are what make me cry for Rose, and the music that plays while the 10th Doctor revisits all his companions one last time in The End of Time Part 2 is just bloody amazing. I can’t even remember how it goes, but I know I cried more than ever before in those scenes, and that’s so almost completely down to the music.
That’s why I’m Team Gold, and will continue to be, I expect, into Series 5. Now, anyone know when this 2009/10 Specials music can be mine?!

Classic Who music from Murray Gold (again). I can’t get enough! It brightens up the walk home from college every day!
More Wuthering Heights read - Still really enjoying it and proving mother wrong! Monty had his monthly vet visit today and behaved very well. He got the all clear, meaning he’s probably the healthiest in the house at the moment! Unfortunately, on the way home, I stepped in dog poo and I’m sure I heard him laugh at me. Anyway, feeling slightly Who-deprived at the moment, but watched three more episodes of Series Two Gavin and Stacey last night and it is just brilliant. I do hope they’re persuaded to do another series.
Favourite moment of Series 1 (Lush):

Murray Gold is a genius and, for the reccord, he is my ideal choice for a husband.
How about using this blog as a way of writing a mini (or large) review of every new Doctor Who episode? I know, not quite as thrilling as Russell T Davis’s promised Twitter account with the same purpose, but I’ll enjoy it! Good practise anyway. And in the mean time, maybe I’ll write some stuff about existing episodes I happen to catch on BBC3 or Watch. Well why not? If it bores you, don’t read ‘em! (Why hasn’t anyone ever thought of it before?! Ahem..)

Today is a very special day… Why? Sun! There’s sun! For the first time in… Ever?! No. We used to have sun I’m sure. And now, IT’S BACK! I plan a nice long walk to work later, and a nice long walk back! In other news, I’m at home, with the cat on my bed, practically upside-down but purring. (That’s the cat not me) He’s a very strange animal, but he seems contented enough. I should be at college, but I’m taking a day off. Because sometimes you just need a day.
There are plenty of other places I’d like to be, obviously. Examples:

Just an excuse to include some lovely photos really! Now, the most productive thing to do with my day off would be coursework, mainly English Lit, but I fear Amazon is calling me! Doctor Who boxsets! iPod songs! Yes, I feel I am running out of Who DVDs (had to watch Gavin and Stacey last night instead!) and so I’ll be off to buy. Finished The Writer’s Tale: The Final Chapter last night. What an awesome idea for a book! Here’s hoping Ben is starting one with Stephen Moffat. Brilliant.
So now I’m on to Wuthering Heights and really, really loving it so far. It’s so full of darkness and decay and dogs! Ha. It’s just so depressing and harsh but Mr Lockwood, who narrates at the begining, is so human.. He’s trying to find the best in Heathcliff’s family, and although I know there’s horror to come (and my mum keeps telling me it’s an awful book!) I just can’t wait to read more!

He’s too cute not to share pictures of. I love him to bits and if nothing else, he’ll make the page prettier! Purrrrr.

Timpani! Aaaah! I love timps (although I refuse to play them in the proper orchestra as I don’t really have any technique, or at work because they are untunable) - They are so bloody satisfying to play! This picture is a-ma-zing and looks as though Banksy should spray it all over Bristol. Brilliant!
